Auto makers begging for bailout

The big three automakers were in DC again, telling Congress and the American public how dire their situation was, claiming they would not last through the end of the year without government intervention.

I am torn on this issue. While I am pissed off at the automakers for being lazy, building huge gas guzzlers with no consideration for the future, for failing to develop alternatives, etc., I am also concerned about possible job loss in the industry, regular people that need to work. Things are already so bad in this nation on the employment front, I just don't want to see anyone else lose their jobs.

Proposition 8

Americans showed up in record numbers all over this nation to express their support for equal rights and their opposition to California's passage of Prop 8 which removes the rights of same gender couples to marry.

Proposition 8 was a California State ballot proposition that amended the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman. It overrode a recent California Supreme Court decision that had recognized same-sex marriage in California as a fundamental right. The official ballot title language for Proposition 8 is "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." The entirety of the text to be added to the constitution was: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.
